Notes on This Song Collection

The recording of these traditional songs was originally prepared for Courage in Corsets: Winning the Vote in Washington State, a documentary prepared for KSPS in Spokane. Washington was celebrating the centennial of suffrage for the women of Washington State in 2010.

As we celebrate the centennial of the passage of the 19th Amendment, we offer this collection of songs composed during that turbulent era, with new words often attached to familiar tunes.

For newly composed songs about women’s history and the battle for the vote, please visit our website. You’ll find lyrics, resources, and a description of the multi-media presentation, “Here’s to the Women!”

Forward into light!
